About Us
My name is Kristen and my daughter is a sweet, funny and charming little girl named Madelyn. Maddy and I live in Michigan along with her Dad, my wonderful husband, Dallas. Maddy was born with a unilateral congenital cataract which was surgically removed when she was 4 weeks old. She has worn a contact lens in that eye since then, and also wears an eye patch a few hours a day to strengthen that eye. More recently, Maddy also got bifocals, which allow her to see at different distances more clearly. At some point, she will need to have a lens implant but the goal is to wait until her vision and eyes are fully developed to get the best outcome with her vision. We later discovered Maddy was also born with Micropthalmia (smaller than normal eye), and Optic Nerve Hypoplasia (ONH). ONH means the optic nerves or discs are smaller or under-developed. It can be associated with developmental delays, hormone deficiencies, vision loss, and brain abnormalities. At this point, we do not know to what extent it will effect Madelyn, but so far her brain development is normal and her hormone levels have been normal. Because of the ONH, we will not know for sure what her vision is like until she is old enough to read an eye chart, but it doesn't seem to hold back our energetic little girl.
